The brief

“The Ligurian sea in February.”

That was the whole brief the founder gave her perfumer — the cold sea her grandfather taught her to swim in. Thirty-nine trials over three years. The launch falls on his birthday.

The brand arrived with a law of its own: one grid, two inks, and a waterline — a thin horizontal band, held at the same height on every piece, where the tone dips to seawater, as if each card had been dipped to a constant depth.

What it refused was as clear as what it wanted: no perfume-bottle imagery, no florals, no gold, no script, no gradients, none of the soft-focus vocabulary that most luxury launches reach for.

The system

Deboss above the line. Ink below it. Nothing else permitted.

Two worlds were put forward. La Linea read the waterline as pure system; Febbraio read it as memory — a flat, Sugimoto-still photograph of the February sea. The system won.

The locked invitation cuts the wordmark with its own waterline: the upper half of ONDINE exists only as a blind deboss in dry bone board — no ink is ever allowed above the line — while the lower half prints in the water. Every fact of the evening is held below the surface and centred at the foot: the date, then the address, then — quieter than either, and the only line on the card to step out of capitals and let its tracking go — the request to reply. Above the line there is one thing only, set small in the top corner and barely darker than the deboss beside it: the name of what is being poured.

Across the suite the line holds its register like a tide gauge. One typeface. Three values. No exceptions.

The suite

Invitation148 × 105 mm · rigid bone board

The master object. The wordmark is split by the waterline — debossed above, printed below — and the evening is set below the surface at the foot: the date, the address, and a quieter line asking for a reply.

Announcement & Press Card148 × 105 mm

For the press list. It carries nothing below the surface but the founding sentence itself — the sea in February, and the name of the thing it became.

RSVP Card148 × 105 mm

The driest card in the suite. It sits almost entirely above the line, because a reply is a small thing to ask and the system says so by giving it almost no water.

Envelope184 × 133 mm

The waterline continues across the envelope at the same height it holds on the card inside, so the object reads as dipped before it is ever opened.

Bar & Drink Menu100 × 210 mm

The deepest piece in the suite — it descends to −8 m. A tall format lets the column of water do the work a decorative border would otherwise be asked to do.

Event Programme100 × 210 mm

The evening read as a deepening column: arrival at the surface, the first scenting below it, and the closing note at the bottom of the card.

Welcome Signage700 × 980 mm

Stood at the end of the room’s reflecting pool with its waterline set at the pool’s true height. Designed from the start to be the photograph the launch is remembered by.
